DEVICE COMPATIBILITY

What is DEVICE compatibility?

Device Compatibility refers to the ability of a specific device to function on a specific network. Whether you are buying or selling used devices, ensuring each device will work on the intended network is critical to maximizing per device revenue.

What is the issue?

OEMs build devices for specific carriers, countries, and regions. Not all devices of the same make and model are built with the same modems and other internal hardware. The result is that a small nuance in hardware can have ramifications on either the device or network ranging from a poor user experience to a device that simply won’t activate on a given carrier.

This issue is markedly more of an issue with Android devices but does impact Apple devices as well. When buying and selling devices all over the world, it’s important to know if certain devices will work on specific networks.

The primary goals of this data are the following:

To prevent consumers from buying devices that will not activate on their desired network.

To make sure when you are buying and selling devices across the globe that they will work once they get to where they’re going.

How does our offering work?

We have mapped and vetted the network topographies of various carriers all over the world. The input is an IMEI and then we can tell you a percentage of compatibility for a specific device. For instance, a specific Samsung Galaxy S20 (based on IMEI) is 95% compatible with Orange in France. This means the phone will likely work fine on that network from a performance standpoint.  If you provide us with a list of IMEIs, we can quickly tell you if the devices will activate on a specific carrier or carriers.

Why Get Your device compatibility data from us?

After pulling data from multiple sources, we create our own synthetic data to create the most comprehensive carrier compatibility checks in the industry! Additionally, networks are an everchanging landscape. There is the sunsetting of 2 and 3G network technology. There is the expanding build out of 5G, as well as the improvements to existing 4G networks. We stay on top of these changes.

How we deliver this new data

We can deliver the data in our web-UI and through our APIs. IMEIs go into the system and percentages of compatibility come out the other end.

who should use this data?

Anyone who is doing cross border buying and selling. If you have a company that is transacting used devices in multiple countries, this tool will prove very useful for your business. This data will be especially useful to your business by reducing RMAs globally, and all of their associated costs!

This tool creates value for buyers and sellers by ensuring the devices will work in their intended target destinations.

how much does it cost?

The price is based upon the number of compatibility queries per device.

PrologMobile currently can offer this data in over 200 different countries and territories and over 900 different carriers.

DEVICE COMPATIBILITY FAQ

What countries and carriers are covered?

  • Our Device Compatibility tools cover over 250 countries and territories as well as over 500 wireless carriers, many of which operate in multiple regions.

What technologies are covered with Device Compatibility?

  • Currently, our tool measures device and 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5GS network compatibility. 5G NSA is coming later in 2023!

How can I use this data?

  • You can use this data to prevent shipping devices into countries where the devices won’t work. Check before you ship is the key here.

How does Device Compatibility impact the environment?

  • By knowing in advance if a device will work in a specific country, shipping costs and related activities are greatly reduced. These reductions lower the carbon footprint for each re-activated mobile device.

What does the data look like?

  • Once you enter an IMEI, you will receive the following:
    • IMEI|Country|Carrier|4G Network Compatibility Percentage
    • XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX|France|Orange France|96%

Can I use this product by itself? Can I buy this product separately or do I need to buy other data too?

  • Yes, we offer Device Compatibility as a stand-alone data service. The purchase of other products or data is not required to utilize our Device Compatibility offering later in 2024.
